Now in its 11th year, the CAIA Association empowers partners and members to raise the standard in alternative investment education worldwide

Florence Lombard, CEO

CAIA Association

Q4 2013

Having completed an extensive revision of its curriculum readings and published new books in 2012, CAIA’s goal in 2013 was to expand global access to and awareness of its comprehensive and leading alternative investment curriculum.

To this end, CAIA implemented a global strategic effort to leverage deep and lasting partnerships, such as with AIMA, and forge new ones that brought CAIA to a new generation of finance professionals. Engaging with our partners both on the ground and online brought the CAIA charter to a growing pool of candidates around the world.

An example of this type of strong partnership is the unique 25% discount to the programme offered to employees of AIMA member companies. Nearly 200 employees of AIMA member companies registered for the CAIA exams in 2012 and 2013 alone.  This participation in the programme continues to raise the standards of knowledge and ethics in alternative investments around the world for the benefit of the industry as a whole.   We also joined forces with many of our partners to raise awareness of the CAIA curriculum via social media, which highlighted CAIA’s best-in-class educational content.

Likewise, new partners joined CAIA in the effort to unify the education standard in alternative investments for young professionals.  Six new academic partner institutions, including University of Amsterdam,  University of St. Gallen, and Macquarie University in Australia, will adopt parts of the CAIA curriculum in their finance courses, standardizing learning and enhancing their students’ prospects in the alternative investment job market.  Students of these universities and colleges also compete for scholarships for the CAIA programme.  In Dublin in November 2013, CAIA signed an Academic Partnership agreement with University College Cork and celebrated the agreement with a programme that included a talk on the endowment model by Keith Black, PhD, CFA, CAIA, Managing Director of Curriculum and Exams.

Additionally, in November also, CAIA launched its 17th Chapter in Washington, DC.

CAIA ends 2013 by honoring industry leaders at the 4th Annual Leadership Awards at a gala dinner held at the Mandarin Oriental in London. The Leadership Awards honor both individuals and companies who show exemplary leadership in the field of alternative investment education—a celebration of the strategic partnership between leading companies and non-profit organizations that strengthens the financial industry for the benefit of the investors it serves.
