Asset management activity in the European Union is subject to a number of overlapping Directives and Regulations at the EU level (in addition to local laws and regulations in each Member State). Broadly speaking, asset management can be divided into collective and individual portfolio management and some of the relevant Directives cover aspects of both. European asset management regulation may also affect managers established outside the EU. In particular this will be the case if a manager is marketing an EU domiciled fund or marketing funds to EU investors.
