AIMA APAC Webinar: Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act

Singapore China Japan Hong Kong Australia

On 20 November 2019, the U.S. Congress passed the "Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act", which could potentially effect private fund managers and financial markets participants who are active in Hong Kong. Once this Act is signed into law by the U.S. President, the Act could result in sanctions against a variety of Hong Kong individuals and entities, and jeopardize Hong Kong's special trade status under U.S. law.

In this webinar, AIMA’s invited panel of experts from Baker McKenzie (financial services regulatory + international trade and sanctions teams), Teneo and HKUST will discuss the following:

  • What is the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act?
  • What are the U.S. government’s measures for this Act?
  • How can a private fund manager prepare
  • The future of Hong Kong as a global financial centre
