The AIMA Australia Annual Forum is Australia’s flagship alternative investment conference organised by the industry for the industry. The full day event showcases the skills of International and local managers, their approach to business and their market views to local and international delegates. The Forum also brings investors, domestic and offshore, to openly discuss the alternative investment industry, interact with peers and gain best-practice perspectives. This year, we will continue to build on our previous offerings with more diversity in topics and speakers as we celebrate our 20th anniversary in APAC.

Opening Keynote Simon Lorne Simon Lorne is the vice chairman and chief legal officer of Millennium Management LLC, which has assets under management of approximately $38 Billion and principal offices in New York, Greenwich (CT), London, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Geneva. He is also the Chairman of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA), the London-based voice of the global hedge fund industry. Prior to joining Millennium Management, Mr. Lorne was a partner in the Los Angeles based law firm of Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP; the global head of internal audit at Salomon Brothers and the global head of compliance at Citigroup; and General Counsel of the US Securities and Exchange Commission. He also currently serves on the board of directors and chairs the audit committee of Teledyne Technologies, Inc. (New York Stock Exchange: TDY). Mr. Lorne has served in a wide variety of public sector, academic and private sector positions during the course of his career. He served for 17 years (until 2016) as the co-director of Stanford Law School's Directors' College and is an adjunct professor at the New York University Law School and the NYU Stern School of Business. Mr. Lorne has authored two books, three practitioner-oriented monographs and a wide variety of articles in law reviews, magazines, and other publications. He has also held a number of leadership positions in non-profit institutions, and is a frequent speaker at academic and industry symposia dealing with issues in the areas of securities regulation, securities and corporate law more broadly, and internal controls. Mr. Lorne holds an A.B. from Occidental College and a J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. |

At BFA he provides specialist behavioural finance training & consulting to fund managers, major super funds and other financial services professionals. He helps his clients to apply insights about investment decision-making to tailor their investment processes and client engagement strategies. With a degree in psychology and a Master of Applied Finance, Simon likes to think of himself as part psychologist and part investment professional. Simon is the author of two books on behavioural finance: “Applying Behavioural Finance in Australia” and "Cyborg". His pet topics including how to combine data and technology with human psychology, and how to enhance team decision-making by applying research on cognitive diversity and group dynamics |

Trolling For Alpha - Finding An Edge With New Data, Technologies and Talent Rajeev Gupta Rajeev has 20 years of experience analysing, advising, investing & building technology companies. Rajeev began his investment career at Goldman Sachs, where he worked for almost a decade in the investment group in Hong Kong, Singapore & New York with a focus on listed & unlisted technology companies. Rajeev had been actively involved with companies like TSMC, Alibaba, Softbank, Tencent, Infosys, Bharti, Singapore Telecom, TCS and others. Rajeev utilised his technology investment experience as a portfolio manager at both Tribeca & Merricks Capital where he ran global technology funds, with a focus on both public and private investing. He then built his own 25-person technology start up called Geckolife, before establishing Alium Capital which is a technology cross-over investment fund. Rajeev has an Honours degree in Finance, Law & Econometrics from the University of Sydney. |

Before moving to Australia in 2004 and establishing Matrix he co-founded Cadis, now known as Markit EDM, a global investment technology company. An investment data specialist, he is responsible for the design and development of the Matrix and Cadis data management platforms and has performed pioneering work in the field of enterprise data management within the investment industry. |

He has worked extensively with SWFs and other institutions throughout the region in countries such as Australia, China, Singapore and Korea, and leads a team based across Sydney, Hong Kong and Shanghai. Hersh has been with Man Group since 2004, beginning with Man Group Investments AG in Switzerland where from 2004 to 2008 he led a structuring team responsible for Asian (ex-Japan), Middle East and South American markets. In 2008 he relocated to Sydney. Prior to his career with Man Group, Hersh worked for four years in London with Clifford Chance focusing on hedge funds, private equity and other alternative investments. Bohnsack, Jr. is President & Senior Partner of Oak Hill Advisors, a leading alternative investment firm with $34 billion of capital under management across performing and distressed credit investments in North America and Europe. Mr. Bohnsack is responsible for day-to-day management of various aspects of OHA including client relationships, product development, operations, legal and administration. He chairs or serves on various firm committees including the partnership, investment strategy, risk management, valuation and ESG committees. Mr. Bohnsack joined OHA in 1993 as a high yield and distressed debt investor. He has represented OHA as a lead participant on numerous creditor committees. Mr. Bohnsack previously worked at Prudential Capital and Keystone Group as an investor in both the private and public credit markets. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Darien Land Trust. Mr. Bohnsack earned an M.B.A. from the J.L. He has held a diverse range of positions in investment banking, government and funds management. He is currently the Chief Investment Officer of Australian Catholic Super, a $9 billion industry superannuation fund. From 2012 to 2014 he was the Chief Investment Officer of Nambawan Super Limited, the major superannuation fund in Papua New Guinea. From 2009 to 2011 Michael was the General Manager - Investments for FuturePlus Financial Services, an organisation that serviced four superannuation funds with assets of around $12 billion. Before that, Michael designed and implemented the $14 billion Workers Compensation Insurance Fund whilst General Manager - Investment Division for WorkCover NSW from 2004-2008. From 1996 to 2004 Michael was Director - Treasury and Investment Services for the University of New South Wales where he managed UNSW's reserves and endowments and managed UNSW's commercial operations. Michael has undergraduate qualifications in law, accounting, finance and philosophy and postgraduate qualifications in law, applied finance, economic history and economics. Michael enjoys playing and watching sport and was born in Johannesburg South Africa. He is married with four daughters |
Where did they get the money for that? Bob Sahota Bob is one of the co-founders of Revolution. He is responsible for leading the strategy and managing the assets of the portfolio. Bob has held senior roles as Head of Direct Lending at Kapstream Capital and Head of Fixed Income at Challenger Limited from 2005 to 2016. He has led an investment team of 14 managing leveraged finance/private debt, real estate debt, ABS, investment grade corporate credit and alternatives portfolios on behalf of both Challenger Life Company and pre-eminent Australian superannuation funds. During his time at Challenger, funds under management increased from A$1bn to A$9bn. Bob has spent his career managing private debt, serving as portfolio manager and credit analyst at major institutions such as PIMCO and AMP Capital. |
Where did they get the money for that? Jason Ireland Jason has more than two decades of experience working with clients to help improve performance. He specialises in operational and financial restructuring and also understands the opportunities and risks boards and management teams are faced with in navigating both growth and underperformance. Jason has managed teams on a wide range of assignments within Australia, Middle East, United Kingdom, the Americas, Asia and throughout Europe. Jason recent focus has been within the construction, mining services and retail sectors. Recent assignments include the restructuring of c$2.8 billion in debt relating to the Wiggins Island Coal Terminal, the administration of RCR Tomlinson and the debt restructuring of the Steinhoff Group in Australia. Jason established the McGrathNicol Cash and Working Capital Centre of Excellence which focusses on helping clients increase cash flow by implementing practical and effective procedures to forecast, track, save and generate cash. Jason is a trusted advisor to boards and lenders navigating debt restructuring. He currently sits on the board of the ASX-listed mining services company, Boart Longyear. |
Where did they get the money for that? David Heathcote David is a veteran of the international banking scene having spent more than two decades working for international and investment banks, both in Australia and in the UK. There he honed his skills around a wide suite of debt products including vanilla corporate financing and refinancing, project finance, leverage finance, acquisition finance, commodity and export finance, structured and infrastructure financing, securitisations and syndications. David successfully transitioned from Banking to Professional Services firm KPMG in 2009, to lead the Australian emerging Debt Advisory business. The rapid growth and success of this business supported his progression to the Australian Head of the Deal Advisory business and more recently the Global Head of Debt Advisory. David enjoys the challenge and rewards of working alongside clients to bring specialist insight and solutions to create value where others can’t. |
Where did they get the money for that? Adam Howell Adam Howell is a finance lawyer with over 17 years in structured and corporate finance as well as funds management; acting for the major Australian Banks, credit funds and other alternative lenders in relation to domestic and cross border transactions. He has been a partner of a global and a major Australian law firm. Adam has held numerous advisory board positions for debt funds and alternate lenders and has extensive experience in relation to corporate governance and structuring, establishing and operation of managed investment schemes and other debt funds. |

Keynote & Fireside Chat with Igor Tulchinsky and Jack Inglis Jack Inglis Jack Inglis is the Chief Executive Officer of the Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA*). He has been in the financial services industry and closely involved with hedge funds for over 30 years. He has held senior management positions at both Morgan Stanley, where he served for 16 years, and Barclays, where he was prior to joining AIMA. From 2007 to 2010 he was CEO of London based hedge fund manager, Ferox Capital Management. Jack served as a non-executive director of London Capital Group plc from 2007 to 2010 and currently sits on the board of the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst Association (CAIA). He began his career in 1983 at UK stockbrokers James Capel (which was subsequently acquired by HSBC) and has extensive experience in origination, distribution, financing and trading across the fixed income and equity capital markets. Jack holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Cambridge University. |
CAIA Awards Jo’s been based in Asia – predominately Hong Kong - for over 20 years. During her tenure she’s held a number of senior Asia-Pacific management positions, leading sales, business development, marketing and CRM divisions and has both built and managed large and effective regionally located teams. After moving to Hong Kong, with Morgan Stanley, she also worked for both HSBC and Deutsche Bank covering intermediary, buy and sell side roles and an entrepreneurial position at Triple A Partners and now focusses on the education environment. All roles have had a consistent focus on the Alternative Investment industry. Jo enjoys the reputation of being hard-working, capable, committed and commercial, was voted “Asia’s most influential woman in AI” and one of “The 25 most influential people in Asian hedge funds”, a founding member of Hong Kong’s AIMA Chapter, holds a number of Board positions and is a Fellow of UniSIM University. |
Keynote Address David Harding David Harding has been at the forefront of systematic investment management for 30 years. He has founded two successful investment management companies: the first, AHL, was sold to Man Group in 1994; he launched the second, Winton, in 1997. David’s philanthropic interests focus on funding scientific research and the communication of scientific ideas. In May 2019, David and his wife Claudia joined the Giving Pledge, a commitment to give away more than half their wealth during their lifetimes. In February 2019, David’s foundation gave $130 million to Cambridge University, part of which will fund the Harding Distinguished Postgraduate Scholars Programme. Other notable gifts include donations to the Cavendish Laboratory, the Max Planck Institute in Berlin and the Science Museum in London. David sits on the Advisory Board of the Royal Society, the University of Cambridge Development Board, and is an honorary Fellow of the Science Museum, and of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. A graduate of Cambridge University, Harding received a First-Class Honours degree in Natural Sciences, specialising in Theoretical Physics. |

Camille Wynter Camille Wynter joined AMP Capital in January 2014 and is an ESG Investment Analyst in the Sustainable Investment Team. In this role, Ms Wynter is focussed on analysing the investment implications of ESG issues and sustainability drivers on Australian and Global Equities and Fixed Income instruments. My Wynter is also responsible for all AMP Capital’s Australian and Global Equity proxy voting. She also partakes in client and company engagements undertaken by the Sustainable Investment team. Ms Wynter started her time at AMP Capital on the graduate program and prior to her current role, she was the Investment Associate for AMP Capital’s Responsible Investment Leaders (RIL) range of funds. Ms Wynter previously interned at Orbis Investment Management and PlayfairTan. Ms Wynter holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science from the University of Sydney, where she majored in International Business Studies, Economics and Environmental Studies. She is currently studying a Masters of Sustainability at the University of Sydney. |
ESG – Ethically sounds great, but can it help add alpha in a alterative fund? Will Bryant Will Bryant is a Partner in Albourne’s portfolio advisory team based in London. Will joined Albourne in 2005 and has been based in London, San Francisco and Connecticut working with clients to build and maintain their alternative portfolios. Will’s role is to support Albourne’s wide range of clients with their alternative allocations. Among other things, this has brought Will into the world of responsible investing, helping to build an understanding of the activity within the alternative investment industry for those increasing number of investors focused on responsible investing. Will is a CFA charterholder and a member of the PRI hedge fund advisory committee. |

Andrich Mark Andrich is the founder and CEO of Sustainable Platform, an independent software and data information provider to funds in Australia and Europe. An oil & gas engineer by education, Mark worked as a hedge fund manager in NY prior to gaining a PhD in sustainability engineering. His research on sustainable development of energy, water and mineral resources from the perspective of wealth inequality led to WA establishing its state-owned sovereign wealth fund. In 2018 Mark was WA’s Entrepreneur of the Year, winning the prestigious Pearcey Award for developing Sustainable Platform, which has been used by asset owners with around $2T under management to make better investment decisions. Based in WA, Mark is also the Vice-Chair of WA’s UN Association Environment Committee. |

In this role she worked at the forefront of ESG, RI and sustainable investment. Talieh has over 19 years’ experience across the law, oil industry, sustainability consulting and the institutional investment sector. She has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), a Master of Social Science. |
ESG – Ethically sounds great, but can it help add alpha in a alterative fund Paul Chadwick Paul Chadwick is the Managing Director and a founder of Nanuk Asset Management, a Sydney based firm formed in late 2009 that specializes in global investments related to environmental sustainability and resource scarcity. Previously, Paul was the Managing Director of GMO Australasia where, until retirement in mid 2008, he was the head of Systematic Global Macro Strategies as well as having responsibility for the overall management of the firm’s Australian and Singaporean operations. Prior to GMO, he held senior roles in global tactical asset allocation and derivatives trading at Westpac Investment Management and, earlier, senior positions in equity derivatives and quantitative analysis at the stockbroking firm James Capel Australia. His more than thirty years career in finance has followed approximately ten years in aeronautical engineering and airline management in the USA and Australia respectively. Paul holds degrees in Science and Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Sydney and is the current Asia Pacific board member on the Global Council of the Alternative Investment Managers Association. |

Anthony has been trading financial markets for almost 30 years. He founded Kaiser in 1998, driven by his passion and belief in systematic trading strategies, the flagship Kaiser Global Diversified Program has been operating continuously for over 20 years. Under Anthony's direction, Kaiser has become renowned for its advanced computer modelling and development of sophisticated propriety software. Founders Panel - showcasing Australian Managers Christopher Joye Christopher is a portfolio manager at Coolabah Capital Investments, a leading active credit fund manager with $3bn in AUM, a contributing editor with The Australian Financial Review, and well-known as one of Australia’s most respected economists, policy advisors and fund managers. He previously worked for Goldman Sachs in London and Sydney, the Reserve Bank of Australia, and was the founder of an awardâwinning research and investment group, Rismark International. In 2008 he developed the proposal for the Australian government to invest $15bn into the RMBS market to provide emergency liquidity to that sector, which it successfully did, and in 2019 he formulated the idea for the government to invest $2bn into ABS backed by SME loans via the Australian Business Securitisation Fund. Christopher received joint first-class honours and the university medal in economics and finance from the University of Sydney, where he was a Credit Suisse First Boston scholar, SIRCA and university honours scholar. Founders Panel - showcasing Australian Managers Philip King Philip King is the Chief Investment Officer at Regal and is responsible for the Portfolio Management of the individual funds. Prior to joining Regal in January 2006, Philip worked for De Putron Fund Management (DPFM) in London as a hedge fund manager specialising in relative value and special situations. At that time DPFM managed nearly $2 billion in hedge funds. Prior to joining DPFM in 2000, Philip was an equities analyst at Macquarie Bank for over five years. Philip also worked at KPMG from 1987 to 1994 as a chartered accountant. Philip holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of New South Wales. Philip is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Chartered Accountant. |
Allocators Panel - Investing in alternative funds in an age of new investment trends Ben Samild Ben Samild joined the Future Fund as a Director in October 2013 after a 10 year career in the hedge fund industry, and 4 years as Head of Investment Strategy at Industry Super Fund LUCRF Super. Ben completed a 6 year undergraduate degree at the University of Melbourne majoring in behavioural finance, psychology and history. After University he was employed as a research fellow within the Psychology department where the work of his group was supported from investors in the United States. These investors later employed the group to run a systematic global macro hedge fund. Ben completed a Masters in Applied Finance while leading the research at the Connecticut-based hedge fund. |

Allocators Panel - Investing in alternative funds in an age of new investment trends Anastassia Juventin Anastassia joined AMP Capital in November 2018, after relocating to Sydney from Auckland, New Zealand. Within AMP Capital’s Multi - Asset Group, Anastassia’s focus is on investment research and portfolio construction across absolute return strategies, including hedge funds and other alternative investments. Anastassia started her career in equities research before spending a significant amount of time at BT Funds Management (NZ) where she assumed research responsibility for alternative investments asset class, as well as contributing to market analysis and development of tactical asset allocation views. Anastassia also drove the creation and implementation of the Responsible Investment policy and framework utilised across BTNZ’s managed portfolios. Anastassia holds a Bachelor of Arts (Chinese language) and Masters of Commerce degrees (Economics (Honours) and Finance) from the University of Auckland. |

Maying has held various KYC/AML compliance roles whilst working for Citco. Prior to joining Citco, Maying was employed by Juristconsult Chambers in Mauritius. Maying holds an LL.B (Hons) degree from the University of Wales in Cardiff, UK, was called to the Bar of England and Wales and is a member of Lincoln’s Inn in London. Detective Sergeant Warren Lysaght has 25 years of policing experience in the NSW Police Force with a majority spent investigating transnational crime in Drug Squad, Asian Crime Squad and Organised Crime Squad. Detective Sergeant Lysaght is a subject matter expert for Money Laundering within the NSW Police Force and has travelled internationally to study money laundering investigations. Upon his return Detective Sergeant Lysaght made several recommendations in respect to how the NSW Police Force can combat money laundering into the future. A central feature was providing knowledge and training to police officers, in particular criminal investigators. Detective Sergeant Lysaght developed a training program to investigate money laundering offences which is delivered to criminal investigators state wide. Detective Sergeant Lysaght has been involved in a number of money laundering investigations whereby ‘following the money’ has resulted in seizures of drugs, firearms, significant amounts of cash and the arrest of an internationally based controller of a transnational money laundering syndicate. Some of these investigations were also used as part of the AUSTRAC civil litigation against the Commonwealth Bank of Australia Detective Sergeant Lysaght is now a team leader in the NSW Police Force Robbery and Serious Crime Squad but continues to present as well as provide advice and consultancy to criminal investigators in respect to advancing money laundering investigations. |
AML/KYC delving into the dark side Damien Jasczyk Damien Jasczyk is currently head of Global Prime Finance & ETF Sales, Hedge Fund Capital Group and Hedge Fund Consulting for Australia and New Zealand at Deutsche Bank in Sydney where he services hedge fund managers and investors both locally and globally. Damien worked in both asset management and stockbroking in Australia before moving to London where he worked in the prime brokerage business of Goldman Sachs covering some of the world’s largest hedge funds. He then joined Fulcrum Asset Management LP, a boutique asset manager as Chief Operating Officer before moving back to Sydney to join Deutsche Bank. She has broad experience advising on the establishment, authorisation and operation of various types of UCITS and non-UCITS regulated funds, with a particular recent focus on Brexit structuring and advising on AIFMD implementation and compliance. Michelle joined the Maples Group's legal services division in 2010 and was elected partner in 2018. Prior to founding Niktara in 2015, Stephen was a founding partner and COO of Stewart Asia Investment, a spin out from Tudor’s Asian businesses in 2013. Stewart Asia Investment traded multiple strategies, with offices in Singapore and London. Stephen was the Business Manager of Tudor Investment Corporations Asian businesses from 2004 through 2013. Prior to his roles at Tudor Stephen was COO of Pagoda Advisors, an Asian macro manager. Before that his roles included being a Business Manager within the fixed income division of Credit Suisse in Singapore, and in corporate treasury and project roles with UBS in London.
