Chief Investment Officer for the Alternative Portfolio Solutions, Multi-Alternatives, BlackRock
Vidy Vairavamurthy, Managing Director, is the Chief Investment Officer for the Alternative Portfolio Solutions (“APS”) team within Multi-Alternatives (“Multi-Alts”) at BlackRock. The Multi-Alts team designs and manages portfolios across a wide range of liquid and illiquid alternative investments, leveraging BlackRock’s investment capabilities and technology to deliver best in class solutions for clients. In addition to leading the investment management for APS, Mr. Vairavamurthy is a Portfolio Manager and is responsible for driving research innovation in BlackRock's alternative portfolio construction framework. His research focuses on developing relative-value views, optimization models, and risk analytics that aid in the portfolio construction process. Mr. Vairavamurthy is also the Chair of the APS Investment Committee and serves as a member of the Multi-Alts Executive Committee.
The Multi-Alts team sits within BlackRock’s Multi-Asset Strategies & Solutions (“MASS”) platform. MASS is the investment group at the heart of BlackRock's portfolio construction, asset allocation, and active management ecosystem. MASS draws on the full toolkit of BlackRock's index, factor, and alpha-seeking investment capabilities to deliver precise investment outcomes and cutting-edge alpha insights. MASS constructs active asset allocation strategies and whole portfolio solutions across a wide spectrum of commingled funds, separate accounts, model portfolios, and outsourcing solutions in the wealth and institutional channels.
Mr. Vairavamurthy’s service with the firm dates back to 2005, as an Analyst in BlackRock Solutions supporting the firm's Fixed Income Portfolio Management Group. He was also a member of the Risk and Quantitative Analysis Group, as a Fixed Income Risk Manager where he was responsible for risk management and performance analytics for the multi-sector and credit portfolios. Prior to becoming CIO for APS, Mr. Vairavamurthy served as the Head of Quantitative Research for BlackRock’s Alternative Solutions Group.
Mr. Vairavamurthy graduated, magna cum laude, with a BS degree in Information and Systems Engineering and an MS degree in Analytical Finance from Lehigh University.
