Chief Investment Officer, Prudential Financial
Matthew Armas is a senior vice president and chief investment officer for Prudential Financial, Inc. (PFI) responsible for investment strategy, asset/liability management, and portfolio construction for Prudential’s international and domestic business operations. Matthew also oversees the company’s alternative asset investing, the hedging of variable annuity guarantees, and the hedge management programs. In addition, Matthew chairs the Senior Asset Liability Committee and is a member of the Investment Committee of the PFI Board.
Prior to joining Prudential in March 2026, Matthew served as global co-head of insurance for Goldman Sachs Asset Management. In that role, he led the firm’s insurance client strategy across public and private markets, partnering with global insurers to design investment portfolios aligned with long-dated liabilities and evolving capital frameworks.
Before joining Goldman Sachs, Matthew was an investment research analyst at GE Asset Management and served for more than five years as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy.
Matthew is known for building and leading large insurance-oriented organizations, designing and implementing asset liability–sensitive investment strategies, and helping organizations integrate risk and performance in complex environments.
Matthew earned his bachelor’s in systems engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy and his MBA from the University of Washington.
