Nobu Sugimoto
Deputy Division Chief, International Monetary Fund
Mr. Nobuyasu Sugimoto is a Deputy Division Chief of Financial Supervision and Regulation Division, Monetary & Capital Markets Department of the International Monetary Fund. He joined the IMF from the Japan Financial Services Agency (JFSA) in October 2012, where his experience covers securities, bank and insurance supervision. In the IMF, he has contributed to MCM surveillance, policy, and technical assistance work in the areas of supervision and regulation of insurance, securities, and fintech. This work has included assessments of regulatory frameworks in FSAPs; contributions to GFSR chapters including the chapter on private credit issued in April 2024; Fintech Notes on regulation of BigTech, unbacked crypto, and stablecoin and arrangements; and many technical assistance missions. He is also actively contributing to standard setting bodies (including IOSCO, FSB, and BCBS). He holds a Master’s degree from Carnegie Mellon University (MBA).
