Stephen Banfield

Stephen joined KPMG Singapore as a Tax Partner in 2021.  He has over 18 years of tax advisory experience and has spent more than half of his career in Singapore.  Stephen began his career with a leading Australian law firm where he principally assisted on financial services clients.  This includes financing transactions such as sale and leasebacks, structured finance and capital raisings.  He has worked in the United Kingdom for a Magic Circle law firm and also in Papua New Guinea during the implementation of the PNG LNG project.  The diversity of Stephen’s experience means that he has advised across a range of industries and has a deep appreciation of principles of international taxation.  He has developed particular expertise in the asset management and private client space which he has honed during his time in Singapore.  Stephen joined KPMG Singapore from the Singapore office of an international private client law firm where he was a Partner with the Tax and Private Client team.  In this former role, Stephen advised UHNW clients on the design and implementation of wealth planning structures including the use of single family offices.  Stephen advised on almost all aspects of these structures including Singapore tax and regulatory matters.  He was also regularly engaged by institutional asset managers to provide Singapore tax advice on fund formation and investment structuring projects.
