Head of International Department & Compliance Manager, United Managers Japan
Michael is the Head of the International Department at United Managers Japan Inc. (“UMJ”). Michael focuses on launching new funds, managing relationships with international service providers for UMJ and its funds, and offshore compliance issues. He also serves as an advisor to a number of venture capital companies, particularly in Southeast Asia both through UMJ’s own investments, and fund portfolio companies. Furthermore, Michael is a Director of UMJ International Singapore Pte. Ltd. a Singapore subsidiary of UMJ.
Michael is currently a member of the Alternative Investment Management Association Japan Regulatory and Tax Committee and serves on numerous working groups for the association. Michael was also previously an instructor of Compliance and Regulatory Modules at the Henley Hedge Fund Program Japan for all 3 years it was active.
Prior to joining United Managers Japan Inc. in 2011, Michael was the Chief Compliance Officer and Office Manager at Myojo Asset Management Hawaii, LLC; a Hedge Fund Manager in Honolulu from 2006-2011. Prior to that he was managing Compliance and Operations at American Savings Bank Hawaii-Financial Services Group from 2003-2006. He started his career with positions at T. Rowe Price, and TD Waterhouse Securities.
Michael received his MBA from the University of Hawaii at Manoa and is fluent in English and Japanese.
