Betty Tay

Managing Director, GLG and Director of the External Managers Department, GIC Private Limited

Betty is the Managing Director of the External Managers Department at GIC. In this capacity, she provides strategic leadership and oversight of GIC’s external manager programs across Public Markets, ensuring that these partnerships are aligned with GIC’s long-term investment objectives and institutional standards. She also serves as Chair of the External Managers Department’s Investment Committee (IC), where she leads the formulation and governance of investment strategies and decisions.

Since joining GIC in 1999, Betty has held a series of senior roles that have contributed to the development and execution of GIC’s global investment capabilities. She began her tenure as a Portfolio Manager in the Emerging Markets Group before joining the Alternative Investment Unit in 2002. With more than three decades of experience in international financial markets, Betty brings extensive expertise across asset classes and geographies. Prior to joining GIC, she was Head of the Foreign Exchange Forwards Division at Bankers Trust Company (Singapore) and previously served as a proprietary trader with the Development Bank of Singapore (DBS).

Betty holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the National University of Singapore. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), and she completed the Stanford Executive Program in August 2014.

In addition to her responsibilities at GIC, Betty contributes to the broader investment and education communities. She is a member of the Investment Advisory Committee for the Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism and the LKY Education Fund and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI).
