Jennifer Murphy, CFA, is the Founder and CEO of Runa Digital Assets, LLC, an investment firm specializing in active management of digital asset portfolios. The firm takes a fundamental, research-driven approach to asset selection and sector-driven approach to diversification to mitigate risks and improve potential portfolio returns. Ms. Murphy has been active in digital asset investing and blockchain-related research and development efforts since 2017.
Prior to founding Runa Digital Assets, Ms. Murphy spent more than 30 years in asset management in a variety of strategic and operating roles. Ms. Murphy was Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Executive Committee and Board of Western Asset Management, LLC, a global fixed-income investment firm with more than $475 billion in assets under management. She also served as CEO, President and a Board member of Western Asset Mortgage Capital Corporation (WMC), a publicly traded mortgage REIT. Before joining Western Asset, she worked at Western’s parent company, Legg Mason, Inc. (now part of Franklin Templeton), as Chief Administrative Officer and as President and CEO of Legg Mason Capital Management, the investment firm founded by iconic investor Bill Miller.
Ms. Murphy holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a Palmer Scholar, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brown University. She is an Independent Trustee of the Board of the Putnam Funds and serves on Brown’s Presidential Advisory Council on Economics. She is a CFA® charterholder.
