AIMA outlines industry priorities for new SEC Chair Atkins

Published: 23 April 2025

AIMA has written directly to SEC Chair Paul Atkins to congratulate him on his confirmation as the new Chair and to outline a series of targeted recommendations aimed at fostering efficient, well-functioning capital markets while promoting responsible innovation.

The recommendations are structured around three core themes:

1. Support innovation and capital formation
2. Promotion of sound practices and financial stability
3. Reducing regulatory burdens through harmonisation and structural reform.

These priorities are the result of a collaborative effort with AIMA’s US Regulatory Committee, reflecting broad input from its global membership of fund managers and institutional investors.

AIMA CEO Jack Inglis said: “The appointment and confirmation of Paul Atkins to serve as SEC Chair, for whom we have a very high regard, presents a timely and important opportunity for renewed constructive engagement between the SEC and the alternative investment industry.

We look forward to working with him and his fellow Commissioners, all of whom we know well, to address our members’ key priorities. These include improving investor access to private markets, reforming short sale position reporting, tailoring Form PF to its original purpose, and ensuring a smooth transition for Treasury clearing.”
