Alternative Investment Management Association Head of Canada

AIMA, the global trade association representing the hedge fund and private credit industry, is seeking a Director, Head of Canada to lead its Canadian activities and deliver value to members. Based in Toronto, this role reports to the Head of Americas (New York) and manages two direct reports.
The ideal candidate is a self‑starter who thrives on member engagement, understands the Canadian alternatives landscape, and brings strong communication, organizational and relationship‑building skills. This is a highly visible, hands‑on role within a small team, supported by a global organization that values collaboration, initiative, and professional excellence.
Responsibilities include:
- Building strong relationships with Canadian members, understand their priorities, and enhance engagement
- Communicate AIMA’s global value proposition and respond to prospective member inquiries
- Proactively engage non‑members and key institutional/retail investor channels to grow participation
- Lead and support the national Executive Committee and local member groups
- Oversee a robust calendar of 30+ webinars, panels, socials and conferences with the support of local team, including the flagship AIMA Global Investor Forum
- Project manage AIMA Canada regulatory submissions and maintain constructive relationships with regulators and other industry associations
- Produce quarterly newsletters, event invitations, and other member communications
- Oversee budgeting, expenses, and the annual audit
- Ensure alignment with AIMA’s global team, culture and brand.
The successful individual will demonstrate most of, if not all, the following:
- 7+ years’ experience within alternative investments or a related service provider
- Ability to manage diverse projects and deadlines with autonomy and initiative and lead a team
- Strong interpersonal skills, relationship‑driven mindset, and ability to represent AIMA professionally
- Excellent organizational, project‑management and written/verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, CRM systems and virtual meeting tools; willingness to adopt new technologies
- Availability to travel, on average 1–4 days per month.
Salary and bonus dependent on experience. A bachelor’s degree and eligibility to work in Canada are required. This role is hybrid, with at least two days per week in the Toronto office.
