IOSCO survey on loan funds

Published: 21 February 2017

The International Organization of Securities Commissions has published its findings following a survey of its members on their practices and experiences with loan funds. Twenty-four jurisdictions participated in the survey.

IOSCO’s findings indicate that although the loan fund market is currently a small niche-market it is an alternative to traditional financing-channels that are restricted by increased capital requirements. This has created a gap on the financing side that might be filled by loan funds. IOSCO also conclude that many jurisdictions consider their general rules for funds to be sufficient to address the specificities of loan funds and that further work on loan funds is not warranted at this stage.
