CHARTERED ALTERNATIVE INVESTMENT ANALYST (CAIA) designation

The CAIA designation is the standard for professionals within this specialist area of investments, demonstrating an individual’s abilities within and understanding of alternative investment vehicles. Employees of AIMA member companies are entitled to a 25% discount off the exam fees.


CAIA Curriculum 

The Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst program provides a broad-based curriculum in alternative investments. The program covers the main areas of hedge funds, private equity, commodities, real estate and managed futures. The CAIA program is organized into two levels, with Level I using investment analytics to examine the fundamentals of each alternative asset class. Level II applies these analytics within an asset allocation and decision-making framework. Both incorporate segments on ethics and professional conduct - essential components of the CAIA program.


CAIA Exams

Exams are held semi-annually in late February / March and September at testing centres worldwide.


CAIA Membership

Almost 9,000 individuals from over 90 countries are Members of the CAIA Association as Charterholders. 

CAIA Members range from young professionals beginning their careers to seasoned AI practitioners, and can be found in positions from portfolio managers of large institutional pension funds to investment analysts in boutique firms and everything in between.


CAIA Community

Through the CAIA.org portal, alternative investment professionals are invited to participate in the CAIA community. This vibrant online hub brings together CAIA Members, Candidates, and those considering the CAIA designation for themselves or their staff.

Fundamentals of Alternative Investments Certificate Program (FAI)

Fundamentals is an introductory-level, online course, designed to provide a foundation of core concepts in alternative investing. With no high-stake exams, the 20-hour, self-paced course fills a critical education gap for professionals who need to get up to speed quickly on the alternative investment landscape. The course fills a critical education gap for financial professionals who need to understand the ever-changing landscape of alternative investments.

The Fundamentals of Alternative Investments Certificate Program is a natural extension of CAIA’s mission to be the world leader in alternative investment education and to provide solutions to specific market needs within the global financial marketplace.
