Given Japanese investors' need to diversify their investment portfolio, allocations to alternative investments including real estate and private equity continue to rise. Under such circumstances, more and more Japanese investors have been investing in offshore (non-Japanese) alternative fund platforms. In cases where Japanese investors invest in offshore fund platforms, it often becomes necessary to adjust for accounting (i.e. GAAP) differences and there are unique issues for offshore fund platforms compared to domestic Japanese funds.

During this session, we would like to provide insight on the schemes for both domestic and offshore fund platforms; the differences in accounting bases, and potential issues that would arise from the perspective of a Japanese investor.

In addition, this session will also be useful for offshore fund managers when communicating with Japanese clients.

投資の多様化が進む中で不動産・プライベートエクイティ等を中心としたオルタナティブ投資についても運用残高は増加を続けています。このような環境の中、より多くの投資機会を求めて日本の投資家のなかでもオフショアのオルタナティブファンドに投資をするケースが近年より多く見られるようになってきました。日本の投資家がオフショアのファンドに投資する際にはファンドの会計基準の違いを調整する必要が出てくるため、国内におけるファンド投資の場合と比べてクリアすべき課題が多くなります。今回はオンショア・オフショアファンドの仕組み、会計の違いを説明した上で日本の投資家の観点で克服すべき課題についてご説明したいと思います。当該課題についてはオフショアのファンドマネージャーにとっては日本の顧客とコミュニケーションを取る際にも有用になるものと考えられます。
