AIMA APAC Webinar: Singapore PDPA Updates and Learning from GDPR

Hong Kong Singapore China Japan Hong Kong Australia Other Markets Regulation

AIMA APAC invites you to join our webinar on 2  September 2021.

The Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (“PDPA”) has recently undergone significant revisions since its enactment in 2012. The amendments will strengthen organisational accountability and consumer protection, while giving organisations the confidence to harness personal data for innovation.

Some of the amendments, such as the ability to use personal data based on the legitimate interests of the organisation without seeking the consent of the individual, share similarities in concept with the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”). This webinar will cover the key changes in the PDPA in more detail, including the new consent exceptions. The speakers will also share their practical experience in the implementation of GDPR in the UK, analyse the differences between the PDPA and the GDPR and provide learning from the GDPR experience.

The panel will discuss the following:

  • Overview of the PDPA framework
  • Key changes to the PDPA including:

o Expanded exceptions to the consent regime
o New data breach notification and data portability obligations
o Offences for mishandling personal data

  • Overview of the GDPR framework and its similarities with Singapore’s revised PDPA framework
  • Learning from the GDPR experience
  • Privacy law best practices
