Speakers Biography:

Hester M. Peirce was appointed by President Donald Trump to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and was sworn in on January 11, 2018.

Prior to joining the Commission, Commissioner Peirce served as Senior Research Fellow and Director of the Financial Markets Working Group (now Program on Financial Regulation) at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. While at the Mercatus Center, Commissioner Peirce’s research explored how financial markets foster economic growth and prosperity and the role well-designed regulation plays in protecting investors and consumers while promoting financial stability and innovation. Commissioner Peirce co-edited two books, authored publications, testified before Congress, and served on the SEC’s Investor Advisory Committee.

Before joining the Mercatus Center, Commissioner Peirce worked on Senator Richard Shelby’s Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs staff as Senior Counsel. In that position, she oversaw financial regulatory reform efforts following the 2008 financial crisis and conducted oversight of the regulatory implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act.

From 2004 to 2008, Commissioner Peirce worked as counsel to SEC Commissioner Paul S. Atkins. Prior to serving Commissioner Atkins, Commissioner Peirce worked as a Staff Attorney in the Division of Investment Management.

Before working at the SEC, Commissioner Peirce was an associate at Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (now WilmerHale) and clerked for Judge Roger Andewelt on the Court of Federal Claims.

Commissioner Peirce earned her B.A. in Economics from Case Western Reserve University and her J.D. from Yale Law School

Matthias Feldmann, Partner, Clifford Chance

Matt Feldmann is a Partner in the Funds and Investment Management practice of Clifford Chance's Hong Kong office and heads the Firm's global hedge fund sector. In Hong Kong since 1998, Matt has assisted on the setup of some of the largest Asian hedge fund launches and has extensive experience in advising on a wide range of financial regulatory matters. Matt is also co-chair of AIMA Hong Kong's regulatory sub-committee.

Michele Hardeman, Executive Vice Presidenta and Head Global Markets, Asia Pacific, State Street

She joined State Street in 1998 and was head of foreign exchange sales for Australia prior to her move to Boston in 2011, where she accepted the position of head of foreign exchange sales for the Americas. Michele became global head of foreign exchange sales in 2015.

Michele has more than 20 years of experience in currency sales trading. Prior to joining State Street, she worked in similar roles at Barclays Bank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Royal Bank and Societe Generale Group.

Before moving into financial markets, Michele held roles as a government policy advisor based in Perth and a psychologist working with intellectually handicapped children and their families. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in psychology from the University of Western Australia as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Psychology (Coun) from Curtin University.

Aisling Keane, Senior Managing Director, Alternative Investment Solutions (AIS), Asia Pacific, State Street

Aisling Keane is a senior vice president and head of Alternative Investment Solutions (AIS), Asia Pacific. Aisling is responsible for leading our hedge, private equity, and private real estate operations in the region. She has a strong background in building and leading successful alternatives businesses in Asia and most recently held senior management positions at Credit Suisse and BNP Paribas.

Prior to these roles, she had 16 years of experience working at State Street in both our Dublin and Hong Kong offices, including head of International Fund Services (IFS) in Asia-Pacific. Aisling holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics and computer studies and a Masters in economics both from University College Cork.
