AIMA Fund Manager Briefing: Developments in Cryptoasset Regulation – US and UK
In the UK in April HM Treasury published a near-final draft of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Regulated Activities and Miscellaneous Provisions) (Cryptoassets) Order 2025 to bring cryptoassets within the UK regulatory perimeter. This was followed in May by the FCA’s discussion paper on regulating cryptoasset activities and its consultation paper with proposals for issuing stablecoins, crypto custody and financial resilience of cryptoasset firms.
Meanwhile in the US, the Trump Administration has signalled unwavering support for crypto growth and other parts of the US government have followed suit. The SEC has scaled back crypto enforcement and focused its efforts on seeking feedback for a regulatory framework. Congress has circulated proposed legislation covering stablecoins and market structure with adoption anticipated later this year.
Please join AIMA and Arnold & Porter for a discussion on the current and proposed regulatory environment for cryptoassets in both jurisdictions, and key points for fund managers.
