The European Commission has published a consultation paper seeking input from stakeholders on institutional investors and asset managers’ duties regarding sustainability. 

This consultation follows on from the third recommendation from the EU High-Level Expert Group on Sustainable Finance, ‘Financing a sustainable European economy’ interim report (July 2017) which focused on establishing a “fiduciary duty” that encompasses sustainability in an effort to explicitly integrate material ESG factors and long term sustainability into investment decision making processes of institutional investors and asset managers.
