Mike Byrne, Partner,  EMEA Alternatives Leader and Channel Islands Asset Management Leader, PwC

Mike is a Partner based in the Jersey office and the leader of the asset management practice across the Channel Islands. He has worked for PwC since 1997, becoming an engagement leader in 2008, during which time he has worked with a wide portfolio of asset management clients based in Europe and further afield.

His specialist knowledge, absolute commitment and contribution to PwC’s global asset management practice, coupled with his extensive connections and his ability to foster dynamic, collaborative relationships are invaluable in supporting clients, both locally and further afield.

Mike is PwC’s EMEA Alternatives Leader, a member of PwC Global Alternatives Leadership Team and is the Chair of the Jersey Funds Association, the industry body representing the Island’s asset management industry.

Relevant experience

Twenty years experience in the Channel Islands and EMEA market

Mike has extensive experience working with asset managers based across EMEA across a range of asset classes. He has worked across all aspects of asset management from retail funds, private equity, hedge funds and hedge fund managers, real estate and credit. 

Two-Year Secondment – PwC Singapore

Mike undertook a cycle of experience from 2012 to 2014 as Head of Private Equity with PwC Singapore. Whilst there, Mike excelled at going out into the market across Alternatives, interacting with service providers, seeing new entrants coming through and striving to position PwC as the go-to-firm for new start-ups. He built up the business in Singapore, and due to the quality of his leadership skills, left behind a strong team, safe in the knowledge that they could carry on building the PE and wider Alts funds practice.

PwC’s Alternatives & Private Equity Leader across EMEA

Within the wider PwC network, Mike leads PwC’s service offering in the alternative fund space, co-ordinating the firm’s strategy to meet the needs of PwC’s alternative asset management clients across EMEA.

Jersey Funds Association – Chairman

Mike was appointed Chairman of the Jersey Funds Association in 2016. He has responsibility for leading Jersey’s pro-active approach to developing new funds legislation, together with driving its commitment to enhancing links with overseas markets, ensuring  the Island’s funds industry can look forward to a positive future.

Lucy Frew, Partner, Walkers

Lucy Frew is a Partner based in Walkers' Cayman Islands Office and heads the global Regulatory & Risk Advisory Group. She joined in 2016 and brings more than 17 years' experience as a specialist financial regulatory and risk management advisory lawyer. As well as having advised financial institutions in private practice in international law firms in London since 2001, prior to which she practiced as a barrister, she also brings in-house experience as legal counsel at UBS and at the Financial Services Authority in the United Kingdom (now the Financial Conduct Authority). 
 
Lucy is listed in 2018 and 2019 “Who's Who Legal - Private Funds” as a Regulatory Thought Leader and  Recommended Lawyer. "Lucy Frew at Walkers is recognised for her 'huge amount of regulatory and compliance experience'.
