On Wednesday 5 November, Global Legal Insights published Private Credit 2026, featuring the Alternative Credit Council’s contribution as the opening chapter. Authored by Jiří Król and Nick Smith, the chapter provides a global overview of the private credit market, highlighting its evolution into a mainstream source of finance and the key regulatory developments shaping its growth.
The contribution highlights key regional developments, including:
- United States: Recent SEC and NAIC policy changes to improve access to private credit and align solvency standards with insurers’ growing allocations.
- Europe: Implementation of the revised AIFMD rules on loan origination, ongoing reforms to the EU and UK securitisation frameworks, and continued growth of ELTIFs and LTAFs.
- APAC: Emerging regulatory initiatives in Australia and Singapore aimed at expanding access to private markets while maintaining investor protections.
The chapter also examines global trends such as increased regulatory focus on valuation and transparency, the growing retailisation of private credit, and the role of data and technology in enhancing market efficiency.
