FCA publishes final rules for the new UK cryptoasset regime

The UK Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”) has now published the final version of its rules for cryptoasset firms. The series of policy statements cover:

  • Admissions and disclosures and the market abuse regime for cryptoassets
  • Stablecoin issuance
  • Regulated cryptoasset activities
  • A prudential regime for cryptoassets
  • Application of the FCA handbook for regulated cryptoasset activities.

The FCA is also consulting on non-handbook guidance for firms on the new prudential regime.

Firms will be able to apply for authorisation between 30 September 2026 and 28 February 2027, to be ready to start or continue to trade under the new mandatory regime which will come into force on 25 October 2027.
