ESMA launches reference data submission under MAR

Published: 31 May 2017

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has published a communication regarding financial instrument reference data submission under Article 4(1) of Regulation (EU) No. 596/2014 on market abuse (MAR) and Article 27 of Regulation (EU) No. 600/2014 on markets in financial instruments (MiFIR).

The communication explains that the implementation of the ESMA Financial Instrument Reference Data System (FRIDS) will become operational from 17 July 2017, enabling venue operators in jurisdictions in which reference data collection has been delegated to ESMA to transmit reference data for which a request for admission to trading was made or were admitted to trading/traded from 3 July 2016.

ESMA will then fulfil its obligations under MAR to publish the data in its central reference data list. Relevant communications for MiFIR systems will follow, ready for 3 January 2018.
